2018 Ford F-150

With so much all-around goodness, you might wonder if the 2018 Ford F-150 is pickup perfection.

What's New for 2018?

The most exciting development this year is a diesel option on Ford's half-ton pickup, available this spring. Diesel has long been available on the larger models in the F-series, and it's finally trickled down to the smallest, most popular truck. This new engine offers 250 horsepower and a maximum of 440 lb-ft of torque, just a hair better than the engine in the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel.

Even the gas engines are getting an upgrade for 2018. You now have your pick between a 3.3-liter V-6, a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6, and a 5.0-liter V-8. Each of them pairs with Ford's 10-speed automatic transmission. A host of upgrades and new tech rounds out the 2018 offerings, options like Wi-Fi hotspot, a premium audio system, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection.

Why Buy the Ford F-150?

With a truck this good, where to begin? The Ford F-150 is Ford's top-selling model and the trendsetter for American pickups. It has top-of-its class towing, a solid twin-turbo engine, classic and bold look, handsome cabin, advanced systems and driver helps, and more. The only thing that might steer you away from the F-150-its fuel economy-would probably keep you from buying anything in the class. Yes, the F-150 is that good.

Which F-150 is Best?

You can find an F-150 for every need and whim. Off-roading enthusiasts will likely go crazy over the wide, loud, and rowdy F-150 Raptor. The Limited trim is like a limousine in luxury. But those options can get too pricey for many potential buyers. Most pickup drivers will be quite content with a more conventional pickup. We recommend the XLT for a basic work truck with a few extra bells and whistles or the Lariat to get the most for your money. All Lariats offer SuperCabs or bigger. For a modest price bump, you can swap out the base engine for the muscular twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6.

How Much Can the F-150 Tow and Haul?

The F-150 boasts best-in-class towing, with a maximum of 13,200 pounds. You simply won't find better in a full-size pickup. Even the diesel engine can tow up to 11,400 pounds. The payload for either gas or diesel engine weighs in at about 2,000 pounds.
